Overview
Listen to voice recordings that physicians and other healthcare professionals make and convert them into written reports.
Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Interpret and transcribe the dictation into patient history, exam notes, operative reports, referral letters, discharge summaries and other documents.
Review and edit drafts prepared by speech recognition software, making sure that the transcription is correct, complete and consistent in style.
Identify inconsistencies, errors and missing information within a report that could compromise patient care.
Follow up with the healthcare provider to ensure accuracy of reports.
Submit health records for approval.
Follow patient confidentiality guidelines and legal documentation requirements.
Review transcription documents to identify and correct any errors and check with healthcare providers to obtain the correct information.
OTHER FUNCTIONS:
Perform other functions and tasks as assigned.

Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Postsecondary education in medical transcription preferred.
Ability to transcribe dictation required.
Ability to use proper grammar, spelling and sentence structure as well as a strong knowledge of medical terminology and medical abbreviations required.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and speech recognition software required.
One or more years’ experience working with medical records preferred.
