PURPOSE STATEMENT:

The Equine Therapist position involves the co-facilitation of equine assisted therapy groups for residents as well as providing individual equine therapy sessions when recommended by the treatment team.

 

Shift: Tuesday - Saturday, 8am - 5pm

Responsibilities

PURPOSE STATEMENT:

The Equine Therapist position involves the co-facilitation of equine assisted therapy groups for residents as well as providing individual equine therapy sessions when recommended by the treatment team.

 

OVERVIEW/SUMMARY OF POSITION:

  • The Equine Therapist is required to document all therapeutic encounters, to participate in communication with the interdisciplinary team, and to be able to design safe and appropriate activities based on each resident’s individual needs.
  • The employee may also be assigned to assist with horse care duties such as feeding, maintenance of stalls and basic equine health care.
  • The employee is expected to help maintain a clean, presentable, and safe environment in the stable area.
  • Position may also receive cross-training among other clinical departments and be asked to help provide coverage for groups, lectures, and activities outside of equine.
  • The employee will attend company-wide mandatory meetings, regularly scheduled trainings, and weekly staff meetings.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

  • Master’s degree in counseling/psychology or related field.
  • Eligibility for Licensure in the State of Arizona, associate-level license at minimum preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Prefer a minimum of two years of experience working with substance use disorders, co-occurring disorders and behavioral health issues.
  • A minimum of two years working with horses and clients using the equine-assisted psychotherapy (EAP) model preferred.

 

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Group therapy facilitation skills for Equine Assisted Therapy.
  • Computer skills.
  • Ability to communicate with and work within a multi-disciplinary treatment team.
  • Ability to work with a wide range of diagnoses and behaviors.
  • Ability to handle horses involving leading, grooming, and groundwork activities.
  • Be able to conduct basic horse care skills to support equine specialist.

 

LICENSURE:

  • Licensure in Behavioral Health field preferred (or in the process of licensure).
  • Certification in horsemanship skills or EAP preferred (EAGALA, NL, and/or CHA).

 

ADA REQUIREMENTS:

  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 75 lbs.
  • Able to stand or walk for long periods of time.
  • Good vision and hearing.

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Maintain complete confidentiality in all patient/program matters, in accordance with facility policy.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures relevant to the job, the department, and external regulating bodies or obtain approval for exception.
