PURPOSE STATEMENT:
A transition to practice role for new graduate registered nurses who will be eligible to obtain their RN license
within 90 days of beginning employment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Under the direction, supervision, consultation and collaboration of the charge nurse or their designee,
the graduate nurse has temporary authorization to practice nursing, as stipulated by the Nurse Practice
Act within the state where the facility is located.
• Provide nursing care and services within the standards and scope of nursing practice, as defined within
the state Nurse Practice Act regulations, policies, procedures and protocols, as well as facility and
corporate policies and procedures.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
• Recent graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing required.
• Required to register for RN licensure exam (if an individual fails to pass first exam, job title changed and
pay reduced).
• One or more years’ experience as a nursing assistant preferred.
LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:
• Temporary nursing permit issued to graduates of professional nursing program who have not yet taken
state RN licensing exam (for the first time), providing temporary authorization to practice as a graduate
nurse under the supervision of a current licensed registered nurse within the state where the facility
provides services, and within the standards and scope of practice as defined by the state Nurse Practice
Act.
• CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by
facility).
• First aid may be required based on state or facility.
